OOC EVENT PLOTTING: SEPTEMBER 2023

This is the OOC plotting post for the September 2023 event! Here you can find brief summaries of the various event prompts which may help you engage in plotting with other players. To participate, utilize the code at the bottom of the page. This is not mandatory! Feel free to plot here or in private with other players, or simply wait to be part of the event.

NOTE: This is NOT the event log! The event log will go up on the 19th of this month.

WE WERE DREAMING, WAITING FOR NIGHT.

The new park is a permanent location that is open to residents 24/7 as there are no fences nor gates. It's larger than the one near City Hall and has more potential for exploring as well as different features from its cousin. For those that are familiar, it will evoke thoughts of New York's Central Park with its mixture of open areas contrasting with thick woods. Paved walkways, freshwater ponds, picnic areas, and a couple of playgrounds can all be found throughout the park. Along with these, residents may stumble upon other natural and man-made areas such as rocky outcrops, unmarked trails, bicycle paths, fountains, and other things typically found in large urban parks—minus the wildlife. It can be a romantic setting as easily as it can be a horrific one depending on the time of day as well as the company that you keep.

THEN THE HEAT BROKE, THE NIGHT WAS CLEAR.

Located in the southern half of the large park is a small fun fair that will open to the public the evening of September 19 with operating hours from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM City time. Before opening, none of the rides or games will be operational; however, there will be fliers advertising its opening all around the city on billboards and telephone poles, and adventurous characters are able to hop the fence and explore if they so desire. However, they will not be able to turn on any of the rides or games, and will not be able to break into the rides or booths under any circumstances.

Upon opening, there will be a number of rides running themselves on a schedule that allows people time to get on, have some fun, and then get back off again. Among those named are a merry-go-round, mirror fun house, bumper cars, a tunnel of love, and knock-off Gravitron. Though there's something unsettling about the music they play, or maybe how shaky they feel, there's no apparent danger anywhere. Residents are encouraged to enjoy themselves with a group of friends, or maybe a date, and experience all that the fun fair has to offer! The fair will not be open forever, though; its gates will close permanently at 11:00 PM on September 30 and all traces will disappear that night to leave a large, open field behind in the park.

This is a good, ol' fashioned carnival designed to bring together groups of people for thrills and fun. Though there are no overt game mechanics at play, we encourage everyone to get creative and add their own flair to this month's event. IT SEEMED AN HONOR TO HAVE A MOUTH.

As quintessential as the rides, no fun fair is complete without rigged games or greasy food. Some of the notable mentions are a shooting gallery, dart throwing, and the ubiquitous ring toss. You may think that it's easier to cheat at a game when there are no attendants telling you made-up rules, but you'll still find it difficult to win yourself one of the many prizes hanging from the ceilings. There's a plethora of food to enjoy with all the classics: corn dogs, fries, funnel cake, pizza, shaved ice, and fried junk food.

Despite the potential for danger from the shooting gallery and balloon dart games, both are designed to be as harmless as possible—the bullets are rubber, and the darts are made of plastic. While they will still leave a bruise, there shouldn't be risk of blood loss. The shooting gallery guns are chained in place, unable to be stolen. Removing the darts from their stall will result in thiefs walking in a tight circle that always brings them back in hopes the darts will be restored to their rightful place.

Though the food and games are free, the prizes are not—anyone who attempts to steal prizes without winning the games first will find themselves misplacing their items before leaving the carnival. If residents become aware of this phenomenon and try extra hard to focus on not losing their stolen prize, it will nevertheless slip from their hands and be lost—though a keen eye might see it back in its rightful place at the game stall. If you have the right temperament, this could become a game in and of itself!

Additionally, if there are any fair games or foods that have not been explicitly mentioned above, players are welcome to assume they can be found. Nothing as extravagant as a theme park or amusement park will be present as all of the stalls are designed to be mobile—this is a traveling carnival, after all. Similarly, players are welcome to design their own brand of unsettling game prizes as long as none of them can be used as an actual weapon or to otherwise harm fellow fair-goers.

hello hello yes, Armand has always had people to do these things for him, so getting stuck in to gardening shenanigans would be the sweetest cr please!

And omg, yes, Armand hasn't/won't feed until it's literally burning him up, so I'd be super up for either a 'almost gone too far' moment or an 'oh shit i might have just killed you' moment 8D both flavours are good!

I want him to experience getting cuffed to someone, but also, actually finding someone that is down for/not scared of vampire nibbles is rad too!

I'm happy to back date meetings over gardening things OR they meet in some awful creature of the night scenario before/during the faire? THEN awkward friendship lol

This all sounds fantastic! They definitely need to garden. I was thinking of having Loki start one on his balcony and they could totally end up swapping what works best and ways to get things to grow.

I’m not against the cuffing, but it isn’t really necessary in terms of feeding on Loki. He’s not human by any means so it would be much harder for Armand to actually kill him, so I could see Loki being all ‘oh this is interesting’ and then ‘okay, enough now.’ Then maybe a bit of panic when he realizes Armand is as strong as he is and therefore is difficult to remove by force (which he would definitely be trying).

I’m leaning towards creature of the night then awkward friendship. Loki will be wary, but ultimately will enjoy the gardening too much lol

Honestly creature of the night is my fave scenario 8D I can either happen at the faire (surrounded by mortals when you haven't fed in over 10 days is uhh, not smart??) or we can do something just before, then meet hilariously at the faire probably around Will? :3 I am happy to give Loki that 'oh no someone as powerful as me' fright/confused attraction depending on how he falls or both!

They’re going to end up having tea (even if Armand doesn’t drink his) while sitting in their gardens. Swapping stories of what they’ve made work.

You know, I kind of like the idea of Loki having had this experience with Armand before the faire because when he sees Will and Armand together, he’ll be concerned. He’s supposed to get stuck on the Ferris wheel with him after he sees him with Armand so this could be all sorts of conversation.

Then, eventually, they will all have the strangest CR I’ve had so far.

Okay, I can throw together a closed post for now, then probably a catch all for faire/gardening stuff later after the event goes up, if that's good with you?

Where would Armand stumble upon Loki? I can have him actively stalking/trying to 'call out' in the way he does in a mesmerizing way (though this generally only works on mortals) or something that starts off benign and escalates. The longer Armand is without blood, the less he passes for mortal, so Loki could poke him about that - Armand is basically hanging out in random places in the city and chain smoking to distract himself, so he's p easy to run into!

That works perfectly!

Loki is often out and about. He likes to take long walks. How about the park? He likes nature and I could have him wondering about growing his own plants when this happens as a bit of a hint towards where things will go with them in the future. So far I’ve had Loki notice that some people aren’t human, but not know what they were (he did this with Lestat) so he’ll definitely notice.

Btw, heads up that I’m away for a few days starting tomorrow so I’ll be a bit slow with tags. Just so you know.
