Player Event OOC Plotting: PROM

Hey, Cityzens! Alex and C here with an early heads-up about a player event that's heading your way in early December, with pitch-in and participation opportunities along the way!

What event, you might ask?

DECEMBER CITY PROM MISTLESTRAVAGANZA*.
* working title**

THE BACKSTORY:

So, following in the same inspiration as the Welcome Diner and its attempt at making the City feel more at home for newly-arrived residents, a companion movement to make adaptations to the City specifically to cater to more specialized (read: supernatural) needs has begun to spring up — mostly courtesy of Lestat out here being a champion for Vampire Rights™. Accordingly, Ghost and Kaveh have been collaborating on trying to come up with architectural renovations that can accommodate some of the unique needs of more uniquely-situated Cityzens, and relatedly, how to do it without pointing big flashing neon signs at the people who actually seek to utilize them.

How have they decided to solve this? By making those types of accommodations so cool that everyone will want them because they're awesome, and not just because they're, idk, vampires.

And so, as their first foray into making these types of accommodations the Hip New Thing, they've decided to do a proof-of-concept test run by holding a big black-tie formal, wherein the decorations will include prototypes of the enhancements they're going to try to roll out in the future, thus making those enhancements "that nifty artificial sunlight thing they did at the gala" as opposed to "artificial sunlight? haha, what are you, a vampire or something?"

THE SUMMATION:

They're hosting prom! The theme is something appropriately schmoopy like "casting light in the darkest days of the year", because that's what you get when you let these two people discuss Themes™ with no supervision.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STUFF:

• The timeline for the event is early December, probably on or around the 2nd.

• The location for the event is a planetarium in the Science Center that they will be ripping chairs out of and renovating in order to make a dance floor and, you know, set up all their cool lighting shenanigans.

• It's December in DWRP, so the mods have agreed to let us have kissing mistletoe at the event! What's December in DWRP without kissletoe, I mean really.

• There will be an IC announcement from Ghost soliciting assistance from people who want to pitch in and assist! There's a lot of flexibility with the event right now, since right now the only things covered are the venue and architecture. There's plenty of opportunity to pitch in with things like food, music, offering dance lessons, assisting with renovating the space, collecting necessary materials, making sure Kaveh sleeps more than a total of thirty-five minutes in the next three and a half weeks...

• It's totally fine if your character doesn't know Ghost or Kaveh but still wants to get involved! Ghost in particular is going to be actively recruiting for this so you're welcome to handwave that you're assisting, that she's contacted you, etc.

• The mods have confirmed this event will not conflict with whatever the December plot will be, so people can chill out, relax, and have some garden-variety socializing fun before whatever the end of the month throws at us! This event is also not affiliated with the December plot, so it's all just in good fun.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE:

• Come to the prom! Dance. Smooch beneath the kissletoe. Shenanigans.

• Comment to this post if you'd like to do something specific in terms of contributions - wanting to provide the food, or signing on to be the live band, the sort of thing that would appear in the narration of the log post and would need a credit nod!

• If you'd like to handwave that you're contributing or use the renovations as plot hooks for your own threads, that's totally fine too! A heads-up would be great for the purposes of handwaved CR, but it's definitely not necessary - helping hands are as pop-up volunteer as they desire.

Music is definitely something that will be advertised for — Eddie can either weigh in on Ghost's forthcoming IC post, or if it's somehow visible/accessible around the City that he does music, you're welcome to handwave that she found him through channels and contacted him directly!

Emet-Selch here will begrudgingly help. Mostly as a musical accompaniment to Hythlodaeus (piano or violin) and another "chaperone" to keep the younger folk in line.

Less begrudgingly, he can be of some use with transporting items to and from the venue or lending another creative eye to the decorating team.

Anyway, the Wanderer is very good at cooking, so he can provide a variety of dishes for prom! He doesn't exactly know what kind of food you'd expect at an event like this so someone tell him please but

also apparently he's going to become Kaveh's debate partner for decorations............

lestat can provide musical entertainment - piano and violin solos and also heavy metal l-lmao, and will help set things up since he loves to be involved in absolutely everything he possibly can and has very intense interior design decisions. he's also got wicked fashion sense AND hoardes clothes so he could definitely host some kind of 'let me make sure your suit/dress colour and style fits you' for optimum nice looking attendees. sets fire to your sneakers.

She's definitely welcome to just hang out, if you don't have something specific for her to be involved in! The sign-ups are mostly just for if I need to reference specific things people did/are doing later, like being one of the DJs or preparing the food!
