Welcome Diner project!

Hi, thank you to everyone for the reception wrt the Welcome Diner idea, OOC / IC posts! This is an update so people know what's happening and how their character could be contributing!

THE DINER: Instead of picking and clearing out one of the diners already available in the city, a building corner close to the City Hall Station is going to be picked and fitted to become the location for the Welcome Diner. This means clearing out the building, but also ransacking actual restaurant/diners for their kitchen pieces!!

• If any characters would want to help out with this process, let us know or feel free to say they did! Kaveh (fussiest) is the one heading the reconstruction, from reworking the rewiring and layout, but if anyone would have experience in doing that, mayhaps a team-up effort can be done?? 😎 (I understand Broca also offered help with rewiring!!)
  
• However, this will mean that the 'diner' won't be the prettiest it could be in time for next month's newbies, but will have a simpler set-up with chairs and tables brought in for the front, and meals prepared and packaged off-site and then reheated there, with some cold option meals. If any characters would like to help with artwork or picking paint colours, etc, please feel free to say!
  
• Nevertheless, even with the not most pleasing aesthetics, people who don't mind being around the diner to meet any potential newbies would be grand. Or people simply willing to mention it to any new people!

WHAT ELSE: The diner is also meant to be a place that information and resources can be found in, and so anyone willing to make any/leave any they've already made would be grand!

• Some characters have spoken about resources for more specific species or issues. Would any characters be interested in writing out guides for modern tech like phones, utilities, etc? This wouldn't really need to be written out, just a blurb, but even if the actual details are handwaved, it being available can be added with all credit going to the character. So, for ideas:
  • Guide on modern technology
    
  • Identifying medicines to make them more recognisable when you don't come from modern America. :(
    
  • Anything culturally or specific to particular species that your character would think useful to share!
    
  • If your character has a guide/resource that goes into more detail that's available outside the diner (but a copy would be available there), it can still be linked, as we planned to link to anything like that - and clubs, and character services, etc - here!
• Helping to check out how full/empty apartment buildings are, helping with map making -- this was brought up by Althea, and people to help out with it would make the work for faster!

If you have any questions or ideas, or think we missed anything, please let us know! There are plenty of odd jobs that would be available, from photocopying, to writing, etc. Flyers will need to be made and placed around advertising the diner! There was also a talk in the network post about discussing what's good to make known to newbies, what information to make available/should be covered. We can use this post for that, though if people would want an IC in person talk about discussing it, I wouldn't mind making it! But I know we have the current event going strong.

Miss Tsuruno Yui is ready and willing to provide home-cooked meals (it will mostly be Chinese by nature of her family restaurant) and also be around as a friendly greeter!

If you want to name what foods she would offer - especially on the first month, where they won't have the biggest/most viable kitchen for the project - we can list it down!

lestat is stronger than your average bear human, and also incredibly nosy, so he can help cleaning out debris/moving furniture if needed, bc he's conveniently recently discovered that he loves decorating after doing so for his own apartment!

and he'll also make a reasonably informed creature of the night cheat sheet, mostly aimed toward vampires and other creatures that feed on humans or who are distinctly inhuman. just with general information that lestat has had to figure out by himself, and his contact info just in case c:

Thank you, Lestat...!! I'm sure there's going to be cleaning out for the spot they want the diner (is it a diner still if it doesn't have the building aesthetic, I don't know, who cares), so his help would be appreciated...!!

If you want to write a small blurb (it could be just what you wrote tbh) about the cheat sheet, we could have it added on the page for the Welcome Diner when it goes up!!

Yesod is available to collaborate with others to compile resources, if anyone is interested in that. He can also assist in person as some kind of human-shaped information kiosk.

Thank you! I decided to make a comment here and then everyone who's spoken about helping on the compiling resources side can give their input and share what their character is most interested in covering!

If Yesod would hang around the diner/the train station, then I shall certainly jot that down too... B)

Peter Graham reporting for duty! He'd be down to help clear out the place, move things, fetch supplies from other establishment, etc. Basically being a runner for whatever's needed during that process!

He probably wouldn't be... very good at being any sort of Greeter or helping the public in general (a. he's too scared/shy and b. he's too.... possessed & frequently Out Of It) BUT he could help out with more behind the scenes stuff... like cleaning up, sweeping, etc. Washing dishes, too.... I'm sure every once in awhile other people on staff that day will come across him weirdly deeply asleep in the back or just standing there staring unblinkingly at the wall, but Daniel & Robby can probably explain that he's.... harmless.....

I missed the OG posts because I was dying, but Welt would be happy to help out with any number of things, including:

- painting the diner/creating artwork to hang up
- writing guides on whatever's needed
- mapmaking efforts
- generally being around as a welcoming face
- c..........ooking....?? he used to make lunch for his son but tbd on how good those meals actually were

Feel free to include him anywhere, he's very versatile. 👍

I missed the OG posts, but Hythlodaeus here would be more than happy to put his experience in customer service to use and act as greeter and guide (and waiter if/when it gets to that point)!

He'll try and talk his way out of cleaning (unless it's something simple), but can be nudged/bribed into it fairly easily.

Miss Ives can provide some actually!good coffee beans she has found, and maybe help clean up but mostly lurk and suss everyone out.

Kaneki will help out! he can do coffee and latter art - and most barista stuff really! so give him any job and he will try to help.

he is also stronger than a human (twice) and that means he can be good at physical stuff if needed as well.

one more for team stronger than your average bear and willing to do manual labor. limited somewhat by his need to work in a team of only fellow dudes but he's very good at hauling things,,,

please however do not sign him up for cooking (he will give everyone food poisoning) or greeting duties (he is antisocial and will probably be a bad door greeter)

Ethan Chandler, reporting for clearing duty. He's a former showman so even though he would generally prefer to walk away in the opposite direction he's good at wrangling in a crowd and keeping up a friendly face. He can keep the peace if someone gets rowdy.

Plus, he is so amused by Papa Daniel and his not!son Robby's shenanigans, where better to observe than from a front row seat?

Scott would be happy to help clear out any debris and stuff.

He'd volunteer for welcoming newcomers and help with guides, but he's pretty new himself, so his knowledge probably isn't as vast.

Another on the 'missed the OG posts' train! Jullus is not likely to be particular good at the actual dealing with making food part of things but does have extensive experience in both reconstruction and scrounging for any necessary replacement parts. He's also familiar with his canon's version of magitek, so he might also be able to help with rewiring if needed!

Kim would like to help out! I think he'd be mainly interested in mapmaking and scouting empty habitable areas - and maybe clearing them out of the previous residents' things to make the newcomers feel less weird about it - and in providing some blurbs on what to expect. He'd also mention that if someone arrives injured, he's able to provide assistance before they can get them to a more practiced doctor.

Midnight's definitely in! On a more immediate basis, he's down for team "I pick things up and put them down", but once things are properly settled, he's a very friendly face and will spend so much time with the available material to make sure he can welcome everyone who wanders in while actually knowing what he's talking about. (He might even stand outside with a sign?? He's a goober, this is something he would do.)

In the long term, he'll put so much time and energy into learning how to run pretty much every part of the diner that he might fall asleep there from time to time? So cooking, map-making, information gathering and brochuremaking... Anything he can learn, he can and will! He might need to be told to calm down a bit, honestly... Workaholic... But he's very bright and cheerful and probably just needs to stick to being a friendly face so less social characters can do their jobs in peace 🫡

MAP MAKING

So I feel like a few characters would be interested in the map-making! What would be good to figure out is what everyone would think would be good for a map. IIRC smaller maps are available, but since it's more coded in a way more modern people used to city maps would understand, having a more versatile map that covers more information was the idea behind this.

Random thinking, based on what did come up ICly already and so makes a good starting point:

• Would one large map at the Diner be good that covers where shops and apartments are?
  
• Would they be interested in making smaller versions of a map like this? What would be pertinent info to cover on such a map?

I thought this would be a better way to brainstorm...!! I hope this helps as a starter.

Robby himself would just signal to what Althea said here, since she brought it up and wow, having a text response to go back to helps with these things!!

Because compiling information is a good team effort-- and having one place to come together works. In my mind, there's two types of information: that in relation to existing comfortably within the city, and then there's understanding the city/trying to figure it out.

Characters can work on either, honestly, since that's their prerogative, and the latter does also help the former-- but if people want to team up and do more, that's always cool. 😎 I think figuring out what characters would ICly think be useful to have on hand would be good. Who would want to touch on modern technologies? What points should be touched upon to helping the average person showing up?

Also--! I did have something written out for the Welcome Diner flyers, but I also don't mind if people wanted to submit their own ideas. Go ahead if you want to fiddle with it:

I am late to the party- But Izuku would 100% be interested in clearing out/fixing up the building to make the diner, construction and map making! He can do heavy lifting!!

He can't cook all that well but he'll help with food prep too!
