MOD ANNOUNCEMENT.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello residents!

We want to start by once again thanking our entire playerbase, both current and former, for playing with us and putting so much into the game and the relationships that developed between characters. You have been fantastic, and even though the game is coming to an end, we're thankful to have had the chance to run this game for you all and appreciate all the thoughtful suggestions, interesting plot ideas, and just overall effort that you all have put in so far.

Firstly, the crux of the announcement: We will be moving the end date of the City up from June 2024 to March 2024, and will be closing the game beginning April 1, 2024.

When we originally announced in our newsletter at the beginning of February that we were aiming for a June 2024 end date, it was primarily because we had events written out through that time and felt that the conclusion we had for the current "arc" of the story would make a good endpoint for the game. However, we underestimated how difficult it would be for players to continue engaging with events knowing that the game would be closing in a few months.

Additionally, while we originally stated that we would close early if the game dipped under 30 characters, we are now down to 38 and can tell that things are stagnating. We get the sense now that while people do want to know how the game's story is meant to conclude, that it's difficult to meaningfully engage in CR-building when the game containing the CR is heading toward its end.

So, instead of drawing things out and continuing to post monthly events through June, here's what we're going to do instead: on March 31st, we will post a full and detailed write-up of all the events of endgame, beginning with the movie theater event that was meant to take place in March all the way through the final event that would have taken place in June. This post will contain a breakdown by month of what each event would have contained (duration, location, the plot beats of the event, and the name and survey questions that would have followed) as well as what additional information residents could have gleaned about the city. We will also post additional information about how character actions have been impacting the course of the story thus far, and how their continued actions would have impacted things had the game continued to operate. Finally, we will include information about the state of the city (the setting, not the game) after the events of endgame.

Beginning on April 1, the City (the game, not the setting) will cease operations as a formally moderated DWRP game. This means that comments will be closed on all mod-operated pages (taken page, activity check page, mod contact, FAQ, etc.), and the mod team will no longer respond to messages or inquiries from players. We will update the locations and maps pages to include the entire revealed city, but will not continue doing any kind of maintenance or updating to the game pages.

We will not, however, be kicking anyone out of the communities, now or in the future. If current players want to stay in the communities to wrap up threads, grab samples, write PSL/sandbox content, or whatever, that's totally fine—just know that the communities will not be moderated and people should interact responsibly. If any former players want to rejoin the communities between now and then, they can do so without reserving or re-applying, but the join requests must be in before 11:59:59 PM PST on March 31st.

Once again, we appreciate all the time and effort and love that you all have poured into this game and the characters in it, and we're grateful for the chance to have been your mods, even if the game's lifespan was a little shorter than expected. As always, comments on this post are screened so please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We may unscreen some responses if we feel that they are relevant to the playerbase at large.

Best wishes,
The City mod team
