You've gotten here just before I had a chance to respond to your top level! It's been many years since I watched Penny Dreadful and I've forgotten most of the details but I do remember that I adored Ethan.
Even if they are both gunless, I bet Nikolai and Ethan can find SOME way to have a marksmanship challenge (which Ethan WILL win). They can enthuse about the finer points of firearm design and transforming into monsters. They have so much in common that I think they'd be a fascinating pair to bounce off one another :D
