everybody else is asking reasonable and pertinent questions so I feel compelled to ask a hilariously irrelevant one

Is the name on the back of the letterman jacket always the character's given name, or can it be a nickname (as some letterman jackets allow for)? Are there any relevant patches that come on it, along with what I assume is the university branding?
